LOS ANGELES and KARLSBAD, Germany – Nov. 28, 2007 – Language Weaver, a leading software company developing enterprise software for the automated translation of human languages, and across Systems GmbH, a leading provider of corporate translation management systems, are developing a specially-priced, bundled software package that will support German/English translation of documents in the industrial manufacturing domain. The translation management software bundle delivers immediate translation productivity increases for companies operating in mechanical engineering, construction, automotive manufacturing and plant construction industries.
As companies increase their presence in the global marketplace, the language barrier is a significant hurdle they must overcome, particularly in distribution channels. Before products ever get to customers in the market, online help texts, printed service manuals and marketing materials must be translated into multiple languages and localized for markets where products will be sold. Adding to this challenge is the growing amount of content that must be translated and the fragmented, manual translation workflows many companies endure.
The collaboration by Language Weaver and across Systems marks the first time that two vendors have worked together to develop an integrated solution providing all approaches - human translation supported by translation memories on the one hand and automated machine translation on the other - for multiple companies in similar industries, simultaneously. across is providing the Language Server platform, while Language Weaver is providing a statistical translation system for German to/from English, customized for companies in the stated industrial manufacturing industries.
"New digital content continues to flood the manufacturing industries. With this package, we deliver significant productivity right out of the box, already customized and integrated with a translation management system – the hard work of aligning data for the machine translation already has been done for manufacturing companies of all sizes," says Kirti Vashee, vice president of sales and marketing for Language Weaver. "So it gets easier and faster for translators to access appropriate translations for manufacturing industry phrases and sentences, which have a technical language orientation. That helps companies to bring products to market faster and provides the functionality for translation of content that has never before been translated."
The across Language Server provides a centralized business platform for all corporate language resources and translation processes, and includes a translation memory and terminology system as well as tools for project and workflow management. Using across Language Server, product managers, translators and proofreaders all work together within one collaborative system where all documents and resources are maintained. The software package with Language Weaver avails users of open interfaces for the integration of upstream and downstream processes and corresponding systems.
"By incorporating all available technologies, across makes the translation process as lean as possible," explains Niko Henschen, managing director of across Systems. "Instead of being opposed concepts, translation memories, machine translation, and professional human translators complement each other perfectly. across Language Server is the platform on which all approaches meet and are integrated in a seamless workflow to enable consistent translations of a high quality in less time and at lower cost."
Language Weaver has developed automated translation software that uses existing parallel translations to train the system to look for patterns in word flow, and offers probable appropriate translations based on statistical likelihood of the correct meanings in context; it is proving to be more accurate than traditional rule-based systems, and much faster to develop new languages and customizations. across will provide a front end interface for the Language Weaver integration, allowing its customers to integrate the automated translation functionality in their workflows. A demo showing the basic process resides on the Language Weaver website.
Language Weaver and across expect to have the product ready for general delivery in Q1 2008. It will be marketed by across Systems internationally. The companies plan to develop additional software packages for other domains and additional languages, to be introduced in 2008.
